John I. Smith Elementary School was built in 1996, and is located at 10415 NW 52nd Street in Miami, Florida. We have established ourselves as "A City Within A School" where all areas of the curriculum are integrated through literature-based thematic units that support the Florida Sunshine State Standards. Active learning takes place in rich, literate learning environments via a hands-on, minds-on approach. This approach includes cooperative learning, the use of technology as it applies to real-life situations, and the support of our media center as the heart of all learning. Through direct instruction in the skills and processes of creative and critical thinking and performance-based assessments, students learn to think critically and make decisions. Character education, tempered by a safe and caring learning environment and an atmosphere. |
